Tennessee Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Foundation 2014 Fall Festival Fundraiser
Again this year I had the pleasure of providing event photography for the THBDF Fall Festival. This was the second year at the beautiful Park at Harlinsdale Farms in Franklin, TN. Families affected by hemophilia have a different set of challenges in the world than the rest of us. Part of THBDF’s goal is to provide education and support to these families to help them better navigate their medical, physical, institutional and and social worlds.
Hemophilia is a rare disease (currently affecting about 18,000 people in the US), so while it’s generally a good thing that it’s rare, this rarity also leads to a lack of awareness and understanding in the community both socially and institutionally.
Teachers may not understand; friends may not understand; medical professionals may not fully understand- they simply haven’t been exposed to the disorder.
Out of sight, out of mind.
The THBDF is here to help families adjust to the curve and offer support for this life-long disorder.
Several Sponsors were in attendance providing information and answering questions as well as offering up some entertainment.
And of course the kids-big and small-had a blast playing games, going on hayrides, decorating pumpkins, and participating in a costume contest. Already looking forward to next year.
